This Privacy Policy describes how the Tinnitus Relief app handles your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

1. Who We Are

2. Data Stored on Your Device

All app settings — including your matched tinnitus frequency, session history, volume preferences and progress diary — are stored exclusively on your device using browser localStorage. We have no access to this data and it is never transmitted without your explicit consent.

3. Research Data (With Consent Only)

If you voluntarily choose to participate in our research programme ("Get Pro Free"), we collect the following anonymised data:

• Matched tinnitus frequency (left / right ear)
• Tinnitus sound type
• Loudness trend over time (weekly averages)
• Survey answers: age range, country, tinnitus duration, cause, severity

We never collect: your name, email address, IP address, device identifier, location or any personally identifiable information.

Legal basis: explicit consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and Article 9(2)(a)).

4. How Research Data Is Used

Anonymised research data may be used for:

• Academic audiological research and publications
• Improving the app's frequency matching algorithm
• Sharing with audiological institutions and research organisations under strict data agreements

Research data is never used for advertising, tracking or any commercial profiling.

5. Third Parties

Research data is collected via Google Sheets (Google LLC) under standard Google data processing terms. No other third-party analytics, advertising SDKs or tracking tools are used in this app.

6. Your Rights (GDPR)

You have the right to:

• Withdraw consent at any time via Diary → "Participate in research". Your Pro access is retained after withdrawal.
• Request information about what data we hold
• Request deletion of your research data
• Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

7. Data Retention

Anonymised research data is retained for no more than 5 years. Local device data can be deleted at any time via Android Settings → Apps → Tinnitus Relief → Storage → Clear Data.

8. Children's Privacy

This app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
